POCKET SANDWICH THEATER

We say that our place is “the most fun you can have in a Dallas theatre,” and we constantly strive to live up to that claim. Professional quality, locally produced theatrical shows are blended with good food, drink, and a friendly, casual atmosphere. A place where you can relax while enjoying food, fun, friends, and the thrill of a live theatrical performance in an intimate setting where there isn’t a bad seat in the house (okay, okay – maybe a few bad seats). We seat up to 145 at table, bar, and booth seating, which is assigned on an as-you-arrive basis. Special consideration is given to seat larger groups together, and for patrons with special physical needs.

Funkier than fancy, our storefront location is in the downstairs corner of the Mockingbird Central Plaza Shopping Center (same center as Jason’s Deli and Whole Earth Provision Co.). We have adequate free parking, wheelchair accessibility, vegetarian plates and a smoke-free environment. How’s that for political correctness?

UNDERMAIN THEATRE

The Undermain Theatre is an 80-seat regional theater, home to the professional theater company, Deep Ellum Theatre Group. It is located in Deep Ellum, Dallas, Texas.

Undermain Theatre has brought cutting-edge theater to audiences in Dallas for over thirty years. The company was founded in 1984 by a group of artists who transformed a warehouse basement under Main Street in Dallas into a performance space and began producing experimental plays. Under the guidance of Founding Artistic Director Katherine Owens and Executive Producer Bruce DuBose, the company’s reputation grew in Dallas and beyond. The San Diego Union Tribune called Undermain “one of the best small theaters in America.” In 1995, during the siege of Sarajevo, Undermain was invited to tour neighboring Macedonia, where it performed to capacity crowds in Roman amphitheaters. Undermain then broadened its scope to produce six plays in New York, culminating in its original adaptation of Neil Young’s Greendale in 2008.

Today, Undermain produces a subscription season of plays for an audience of 5,500 patrons from North Texas. With heightened attention to language, the company premieres new work, revisits seminal modern work, and presents reimagined stagings of classic works by writers seen as key artistic influencers of their experimental tradition. In reviewing Undermain’s 2016 sold out run of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night, Martha Heimberg of TheaterJones said “It’s all here – in the kind of passionate, calibrated production we’ve come to expect at Undermain.”

GRANDA THEATER

On August 18, 2004 The Granada opened under new management of Mike Schoder, owner of the independent CD World stores. A true music fan, Schoder envisioned a better music venue for Dallas. A local artist added decorative scrolls to the entrance doors and poster boxes and applied the midas touch to the lobby bar. Special attention was given to the lobby lighting, enlivening the existing murals and decor.

HOUSE OF BLUES

The House of Blues grew out of founder Isaac Tigrett’s love for the unique American art form known as the “the Blues”. THE KESSLER THEATER

The Kessler Theater, which is a Dallas icon as big as some of the legends who grace its stage, has had more iterations than Diddy’s had stage names. For the past few years, under the vision of current owner Edwin Cabaniss, it’s become a concert destination for music stars and up-and-coming locals alike. While the venue’s bar is not open independently of show dates, it’s worth praise just for the stellar drinking experience. First of all, there are two bars, and the little one upstairs has a particularly cool backstage feel; the bars are open long before show times, giving patrons ample time to get their chattiness out of their systems before sitting down to enjoy a show. This is likely the explanation for the infamous viral incident a few years back when a fringe-booted woman and her friend were kicked out of a LeeAnn Womack show for refusing to stop speaking loudly during the performance: Maybe they just didn’t get there early enough to pre-game and get all their obnoxious banter out of the way.
